Before anyone can build the competencies they need to lead your teams and business, you must know this one thing. You have to be clear about which leadership competencies are most important for your organization. Fortunately, there are many leadership competency models to start from.
What if you don’t train them and they stay?
We understand that finding the time to run your business and all that is involved can make it difficult to spend time developing the next you. In reality the responsibility isn’t all on your shoulders as the employee needs to do most of the work to develop themselves. With your guidance they can find seminars and workshops, leadership development books, mentoring programs or even shadow you in various tasks whilst you're doing them.
You’re not alone as this is very common with a lot of businesses. There are a few factors that could be creating this and by mapping out a clear program to delegate your work throughout the team you may find that confidence rises in one or two employees. Most loyal employees avoid that responsibility for fear of letting the owner down, but with a little bit of support and positive feedback they usually change their minds.

I engaged Shane to help me to deliver a large public contract providing advice and support to businesses across the West Midlands who had been affected by BREXIT and changes to the EU relationship with Great Britain. He handled all of his assigned businesses with empathy, competence and understanding. A true professional.
Shane delivered an excellent workshop for MSDUKs members. The content was clear, relevant and applicable to the current business context and left our members with practical actions to follow in order to sustain and grow their businesses in these challenging times.
